Roses is a Spanish tourist resort in the region of Catalan on the coast of the Costa Brava. It is nearly thirty kilometers from the border with France. Roses is placed between Cap de Creus and the Montgre Mountain. This city was interesting to the Greeks in the third century BC, so they made the city of Rhode. Today the city has numerous remains of the Greeks and Romans who lived there in the eleventh century. It is also a very attractive tourist destination since it abounds in restaurants, tapas bars and cafes.

Historical sites

Roses or Rhode was founded in 776 BC by the Greeks. However, the remains of Greek and Roman civilization are preserved in the Citadel or the Ciudadela, which has the shape of a star. This fortress was reconstructed in the sixteenth century and there is also Trinitat Castle from that period. In the old town, you can find numerous restaurants and bars.

Above all, there is a Roses lighthouse which is one of many interesting landscapes to visit.

Beaches

However, it’s beautiful and clean beaches are the biggest attraction for tourists. There are many beaches with charming coves. Moreover, many of them have received the Blue flag for tidiness and safety.

Platjas de Roses is a city beach which is equipped with umbrellas, chairs and showers.

It consists of Nova, Rastrell and Salatar beach. Furthermore, next to the Salatar beach is placed Platja de Santa Margarida. It offers various activities for children and lovers of water sports.

At last, you can enjoy the untouchable coves and their nature. Some of them are Cala Jòncols, Cala Calitjas, La Pelosa, Canadell, etc.

There is also Aqua Brava Water Park where you can spend a day with your child.

Since Cap de Creus is a protected natural reserve, there are many Scuba divers. However, you can also go for fishing or sailing. Above all, you can rent water ski or pedal.

Tourist Attractions

Although Roses offers many historical sites and water sports, you can also take part in other sports such as golf or karting. However, if you prefer nature, then you should visit the natural resort Cap de Creus and the Emporada.

The Emporada is protected due to its marshlands, dunes and lakes. However, there is a center for animals, which helps Barcelona’s zoo and bird observatory. The Emporada is a home for wildlife.

Just eighteen kilometers from Roses is the city of Figures, which houses the famous Salvador Dali‘s museum with some of his well known art works.

At last, since Roses is close to Barcelona, you should visit it too.
