We all recognize a Movado Museum watch when we see one, don’t we? But did you know that Movado is most famous for their pocket watch? Now, I’m not trying to take anything away from the current Movado creations, I hardly think I could. This watch maker produces some fine quality creations. They are quite stylish and elegant, and they have a delicate and demure designing, but the most highly sought after collector’s item in Movado’s history is the pocket watch. Actually it is the Andy Warhol Special edition pocket watch.

Andy Warhol was born in 1928, and made his name as a painter, a printmaker, and a phenomenal filmmaker. His influence over pop culture is undeniable, and his avant-garde style made him famous all over the world. He had an eclectic group of friends, including musicians and Hollywood a-listers, and is one of the most celebrated artists of our time. Andy Warhol is among the elite group of artists who have hit that $100 million dollar mark. $100 million dollars is the highest price to ever be paid for one of his canvases. The painting, entitled “Eight Elvises” was sold in 2009. Only a select few artists have seen this type of accomplishment, like Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Willem de Kooning, and Gustav Klimt.

His use of imagery captivated us, and he carried that imagery from the canvas to the writing pad, by scripting some of the most entertaining dialogue, which he used to communicate his craft.

Warhol was the most well known artist of his time, almost more famous and the celebrities he hung out with. This fame came with a big price, when in 1968 there was an attempt made on his life. Warhol was shot by a young screenwriter, after she did not get her screenplay returned to her. He was seriously injured, but revived by doctors, who operated on his heart, messaging it back to function. Little was heard of this shooting because of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, which followed just two days later. The shooting and recovery had a profound effect on his personality and his artwork.

It’s not surprising that Andy Warhol found himself collaborating with Movado. Both were artistically inclined, both had a way with style, and both had a distinctly minimalistic touch. Most of the watches they created ended up in Museums, but the ones that remain in private ownership, are true treasures.
