A TripAdvisorâ„¢ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to New Norcia, Australia by TravelPod blogger Mcds4 titled “Pale ale and all’s well” Mcds4′s travel blog entry: “Our trip to New Norcia was through some lovely countryside — the road meandered through the low hills, the bush was brimming with wildflowers, there were fields of yellowing canola stretching to the horizon and there were avenues of wizened old banksia bushes and tall, bushy grass trees lining the route in places. The sun even deigned to show itself every so often too. Our destination was an unusual one — a Benedictine monastery town in the middle of the Western Australian bush. The place is unique in so many ways. It is the only monastic town in the country, it has an amazing collection of religious artworks, the variety of architectural styles is broad (to say the least — from high Gothic, Spanish mission and Australian bush with some 1950s and 60s concrete brutalism for contrast. We arrived mid-morning and asked in the visitor centre about accommodation. They are very relaxed about camping — with only 5 powered sites behind their roadhouse. We were ‘self-contained’, so we were able to set up camp in a large area beside their football oval. A site was selected, the camper raised and the hatches battened down. We then explored their famous art collection and museum. Both were incredibly informative. The art is spectacular — with a lot of Spanish religious works of the 16th to 19th centuries, and also some
